Sciatic Pain?
Here's What You Need to Know

Frustrated with Sciatic Pain?
What is Sciatic Pain?
Sciatica is an irritation of a large nerve called the Sciatic Nerve. This nerve branches from the low back, and travels through the pelvis, buttocks and hips, and down the leg.

Sciatica can cause inflammation, pain, ache, or even numbness/tingling down the affected side.

Sciatica is a very common diagnosis. And because this nerve can be irritated in many different places, it's kind of a generic diagnosis.

But, Here's What You Need to Know...
It is assumed that the source of almost all Sciatica is at the Spinal level.

But in reality, most cases of sciatica are entrapments of the nerve at areas beyond the spine, usually in muscles of the pelvis, hips and legs.

Some times this can be referred to as a pinched nerve.

Common Areas of Sciatic Entrapment...
One of the biggest culprits of sciatic nerve irritation is at the Pirformis Muscle.

The Piriformis Muscle is responsible for hip rotation, and is heavily utilized by active people such as runners and athletes.

Other common places of Sciatic Irritation is at the Hamstrings and/or other Muscles that Rotate the Hips.

So How Does the Sciatic Nerve Become Entrapped?
The main reason that the Sciatic Nerve becomes entrapped in these muscles is either:
  • Overuse/Repetitive Motion. Think athletes, runners, and active people such as weight lifters
  • Postural Stress. Think those of us who sit for long periods or are in the same position without proper stretch/rest

In either scenario, the muscle becomes tight, inflamed, and fibrotic.

This will lead to the muscle shortening up, causing stress, weakness and altered range of motion.

And because of this, the nerve can become pinched or entrapped.

Eventually this will lead to scar tissue build up within the muscle.

But don't let that term "scar tissue" scare you because, with the correct treatment, it can be eliminated...

So What's the Solution?
  • Identifying WHICH Muscle(s) is Involved
  • Identify Exactly What Part of the Muscle is Injured
  • Applying  Active Release® treatments to that specific tissue (and surrounding tissues) to break up inflammation and scar tissue so oxygen and blood flow can increase.
  • Many times, recovery happens within just a few treatments.
